USAT Liberty Wreck bali

Liberty Wreck

The US Liberty was a cargo ship used during both WW I and WW II. After being torpedoed by the Japanese, The Liberty, made its way to the shores of Tulamben where it still lies today. The eruption of Mount Agung in 1963 devastated surrounding villages and pushed the beached US Liberty to the bottom of the sea where it now lies on a black sand slope from 6 to 30 metres. This 120 metre long wreck lys only at few metres from the beach and is one of the safest wreck dives in the world. Now covered with a striking array of coral and home to a myriad of marine life this site provides great opportunities for both wide and macro photography. With easy conditions it’s a great place for all level divers.

Coral Garden Tulamben

Coral Garden

This dive site is a stunning coral garden gently sloping down from the surface to 18 mts situated a short distance up the beach from the US Liberty wreck. It is home to numerous species of reef fish, nudibranch, beautiful blue-yellow ribbon eels and juvenile white tip reef sharks which are commonly found in the shallows. This dive site offers superb snorkeling  with none to moderate current.

Drop Off Tulamben

Drop Off

The Drop Off is an attractive wall that when the conditions are correct can be a spectacular dive for spotting reef sharks and schooling trevally or barracudas. For the macro lovers there are great chances to find pygmy sea-horses in the sea fans, leaf scorpion fish or ghost pipefish hiding in the black coral bushes. Many rare nudibranch, shrimps and critters may be seen in the sandy shallow area near the shore. Keep your eyes out for huge bumphead parrotfish grazing on the reef or around the wall. This site has great potential for both snorkelers and divers alike .

Seraya

Seraya secret is the ultimate muck-diving and macro-photography site in Bali. With a shallow black sand bottom you can enjoy hours searching for strange small creatures hiding all over the place. Seraya comes alive at night not only during the day offering such a multitude of critters that no photographer will ever walk away disappointed. Some of the marine life that can be found are; Ghost pipe fish, nudibranch, boxer crab, zebra crabs or Colman shrimps hiding in the fire urchins, frog fish and the elusive mimic Octopus.

Emerald

Located on the south east point of Tulamben bay, this site is normally accessed  by a short  jukung ride, (local fishing boat). The shallow artificial reef made from a sunken Toyota minivan and some other bio rock structures lies on a black sandy slope also full of garden eels. In the deeper areas the reef becomes richer with Gorgonian sea fans and Barrel sponges all good hunting ground for pygmy seahorses and hairy squat lobsters. The  small drop-off which is full of Elephant-ear sponges and hard coral makes a good lookout point for spotting reef sharks or cruising napoleon wrasse.

Batu Belah

One of the most beautiful coral reefs in the Tulamben area. The dive site consists of large coral bommies set upon black sand providing a beautiful contrast to the colourful reef. With an abundance of schooling fish  such as snappers, batfish and fusiliers keep your eye out for dogtooth tuna or Spanish mackerel coming in to feed on the smaller fish. The diversity of marine life on Batu Belah is what make divers who stay in Tulamben want to keep coming back.
